PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS

Fall 2024

Shooting with Inspiration - Zoom Online Workshop

8 sessions: Thursdays, 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm

September 26 - November 14 - To register for the class, please click PayPal

Where do you start and how do you create a great picture? How do you escape shooting so many of the same types of images? This workshop will focus on finding new inspiration and thinking outside the bounds of your previous work.

We will be looking at the work of different photographers and analyzing the visual vocabulary, composition and intention of that photographer’s work. During the week that follows you will use elements of that photographer’s style to guide your shooting. You can try to make similar pictures, or your interpretation can be more conceptual. We will critique the images in the following class.

Each student will develop a personal project based on one of the styles or an amalgamation of several styles. There will be weekly class critiques of student’s printed images.

The Elegant Photo Book - In Person

4 Sessions: Wednesdays, 10:30 - 1:00 pm

October 9, 16, 23 & November 20 - To register for the class, please click PayPal

Making a photo book is an act of love. Yes, it’s possible to push a button and let Lightroom organize your photos into a book that's ready to publish. However, making an elegant book takes a lot more thought and time.

Whether you're a newcomer to bookmaking or a bookmaker who wants to perfect the craft, this workshop is designed to take you to the next level. We will discuss how to make books that are coherent but not boringly predictable. Storytelling is an important ingredient and evolves through selecting, eliminating and sequencing the images. We will work on page design in the book module of Lightroom and discuss how to use Photoshop to overcome the rigidity of the Blurb templates. For those who want to take Blurb books a step further, we will learn about adding letter press titles to books and how to have a custom cover and end sheets made for your books.

This class will be held in Carol’s Chelsea studio.
